Our Journey

Fashion for me started in my early years, I had always been around tailors growing up, including my mum and grandma. They’d give me little tasks like handling and fixing things together, it was so much fun and it got me excited. I learned to do so much growing up. On admission to Unilag, I started getting noticed because of the type of clothing I wore, I liked prints a lot and people would refer to me as the Ankara girl.

2014 was the year everything changed, I was an intern at the Lagos Fashion and Design Week (LFDW). That day everything in me wanted to wear prints but I didn’t have the look I wanted and knowing the “alaroro” in me I knew going out of Unilag to check would probably “kill” my bank account, then it occurred “What if there was an Affordable and easily accessible Afrocentric retail hub”; One that uses Afrocentric clothing to promote African textiles! That was it! Africa’s largest Afrocentric retailer, the Zaras, the Asos but this time from Africa. I didn’t make much of it at that time. I just stored the idea somewhere, knowing me I would     definitely revisit it someday.

In March 2017, the Serah Kassim brand was born but this time as a bespoke brand because the thought of Ready to wear scared me, 2018 came and I tried it again, gathered my friends around and did a shoot, as usual, I didn’t go on with it because I kept telling my self I couldn’t keep up with doing both. And then 2019 came and I knew I had to launch the SerahKassimNG brand so I opened an Instagram account to keep myself accountable and knowing the type of people around me, I knew they wouldn’t stop asking, it served as a form of accountability and in due time I started putting plans in place.
